egg-and-dart

   A decorative pattern commonly used in molding on architecture or furniture, in which a series of oval figures alternate with arrowhead figures of various types — sometimes described as anchors, tongues, or slightly tapered bars. It is found in classical Greek and Roman architecture, as well as in styles derivative of them, including beaux-arts classicism, classical revival, federal, Georgian revival, Greek revival, Neoclassicism, Renaissance revival, Second Empire.
